Robert Kiyosaki is author of Rich Dad,
Poor Dad. In it he advocates financial independence by
means of investing, real estate, owning businesses and the
use of finance protection tactics. His book is meant to be
entertaining and is written in an anecdotal way to make
finances interesting. The central focus however is his
advocacy of owning the system or “means of production”
rather than being an employee of someone else. Kiyosaki’s
book is based on his real father, a graduate of Stanford and
Northwestern. His father attended on full scholarships and
was the head of the Education Department of the State of
Hawaii. In the book his father is highly respected until he
takes a stand against the governor of Hawaii. This leads
directly to the “Poor Dad” losing his job and his inability
to find comparable work ever again. His father dies in
severe debt. Compared to Rich Dad, his best friend
Michael’s father dropped out in 8th grade but
became a self-made multi-millionaire. He teaches Kiyosaki
and Michael a variety of financial lessons and insists the
boys learn to make money work for them, to avoid spending
their entire lives working for money. Next, Anthony Robbins
holds a seminar called, “Wealth Mastery” and one of the
keynote speakers is a gentlemen named, Keith Cunningham.
During the seminar Cunningham claimed to be Kiyosaki’s Rich
Dad. Some have claimed that the Rich Dad is a person named,
Richard Kimi, the dead founder of Sand and Seaside Hawaiian
Hotels. Throughout the book there are highlights of
different and varied attitudes towards money, work and life
of these two men and how they influenced key decisions in
Kiyosaki’s life.
