The company
Herbalife was established in 1980 by a man named Mark
Hughes. As the story has it, he started Herbalife after
losing his mother to a lifelong struggle with obesity and
the affects of the chemicals in weight lose aids. According
to reports this story is suspected of being false. True of
false, Herbalife now offers a number of dietary supplements,
personal care products and different herbs all said to help
maintain a healthy body weight and keep you looking and
feeling good.
Herbalife’s
current weight management system is “ShapeWorks”, and offers
energy, digestive, and appetite support. At Herbalife you
can also get targeted nutritional supplements to help with;
heart, digestive and children’s health, immune solutions,
stress management, energy and fitness, and vitamins
especially formulated for men and women. All of the products
are developed with natural nutrients to cause fewer possible
side effects. The most popular product that has been
created to date is their meal replacement system. They carry
nutritional shakes and protein bars that are said to taste
better than typical products on the market today. Dr.
Richard Marconi is responsible to helping him come up with
safe and effective supplements.
If you would
like to become a distributor for Herbalife it will cost less
than $100 to get started. Once signed up they offer a lot of
training support including; Success Training Seminars
(STS), Herbalife Opportunity Meetings (HOM), and Leadership
Development Weekends. They also offer business support
including; televised product business and building training,
internet support tools available 24 hours, annual
international events, advice from the medical advisory
board, and promotional tools. If you would like to know more
about their commissions you will have to sign up for a
“sponsor” to call you.
As far
as reputation, Herbalife has been in trouble with the FDA.
They were doing what most MLM companies are accused of which
is false advertisement of a product. The FDA stated the
products would help with different health problems but
weight loss is not one of them. There were also several
complaints on Herbalife for causing side effects such as
diarrhea, constipation, nausea, headache, light-headedness,
palpitations, etc. The company has survived this ordeal and
now still operates with most of its sales being made
overseas. Mark Hughes passed away in 2002 at his home in
Malibu, California.
